June '97 (50 Kbyte jpg) saw our First Annual Chemistry Dept Fishing Trip. Students, staff, and faculty owed their catches and sunburns to Ken Makino, who set it all up.
This (68 Kbyte jpg) is Roz and me at Qinghai Lake in China (1998). This lake is 20 km across at an altitude of 3300 meters.
Dr. Roy Benedetti (41 Kbyte jpg) screwed my heel together in Jan '97. I hate to think what the rest of my life would have been like without his expert surgery. Dr. Lilly (left) assisted.
Here is a video taken by our '99 summer Servas host, Marcel Ursem, who lives in northern Holland. He and friends drove to central France to be in the center of the August 11 solar eclipse but it was completely overcast as the 1 pm hour approached. Their despair turned to joy as the clouds miraculously parted at exactly the right moment and they were able to get some video footage. You can see a bit of the clouds in the video as well as hear their joy (in Dutch). The "verduister" video clip can be downloaded as a (1.4 MB zip file) , in which case you need to uncompress it before double-clicking on it to view. The uncompressed avi file is 2.7 MB.
