Dr. John H. Craig
Professor and Associate Dean, CNS.


John Craig obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from George Washington University in 1964 and a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from Georgetown University in 1969. At Georgetown, he was an NIH fellow from 1966-68. He was an NIH post-doctoral fellow at the University of Illinois and worked in the area of coenzyme models between 1969 and 1971. Dr. Craig joined the Chemistry Department in 1971 as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Craig's research interests are in the areas of aliphatic nitrogen heterocycles, especially those in small and medium rings. He has developed a significant professional interest in the area of computer programming and data processing.

Dr. Craig has taught the upper and lower division organic chemistry sequences, scientific glassblowing and the organic chemistry course for health science and nursing majors.

From June 1987 through June 1991, Professor Craig was chair of the Faculty Senate. From September 1991 through June 1999 he served as chemistry department chair. From July, 1999 through July, 2001 he served as interim Dean of the College of Natural Sciences. Since August, 2001, he has been serving as Associate Dean of the College of Natural Sciences.

Dr. Craig is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Organic Division of the American Chemical Society, the Council on Undergraduate Research, and Sigma Xi.
